Healthy Churches Don't Happen By Accident

Independent assessment, practical insights, and a pathway for growth

The Healthy Church Program

...until we’re all moving rhythmically and easily with each other, efficient and graceful in response to God’s Son, fully mature adults, fully developed within and without, fully alive like Christ. (Eph 4:13 Message)

The Healthy Church Program

The Healthy Church Program is designed to help church leaders gain a clearer understanding of the health of their church, celebrate areas of strength, and identify opportunities for future growth and development.

The program is built around two complementary modules:

Pulse

Pulse is the foundational module of the Healthy Church Program. It provides an independent assessment of church health through attendee feedback, helping leaders better understand the lived experience of church life.

The insights gained help leaders identify strengths, recognise opportunities, and make informed decisions about future development.

Pulse can have customised questions if a church specifically asks for them. Drop us an email if you would like to discuss.

360 Matrix (Launches Spring 2027)

360 Matrix is designed to complement Pulse by providing additional leadership and organisational insight.

It focuses on areas such as leadership effectiveness, organisational culture, governance, communication, and strategic alignment, helping leaders gain a deeper understanding of how the church functions behind the scenes.

Why Use Both Modules?

Healthy churches require both spiritual vitality and effective leadership.

Pulse helps leaders understand the congregation's experience.

360 Matrix helps leaders understand organisational and leadership effectiveness.

Used together, the two modules provide a balanced framework for reflection, discussion, and ongoing development.

The Outcome

The Healthy Church Program exists to help church leaders understand the current reality of their church and develop intentional pathways for future growth.

The aim is to provide clarity, encourage healthy conversations, support informed decision-making, and strengthen the long-term health and effectiveness of the local church.

"Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood." (Acts 20:28)

The Church exists to help people reach their God-given destiny. For that to happen, churches need to be safe places. Places where people can develop, flourish, and grow.

The Healthy Church Program is needed because churches bear enormous responsibility for people's spiritual health, well-being, and development. Without intentional evaluation, unhealthy patterns, leadership blind spots, cultural weaknesses, or declining discipleship can remain unnoticed until significant damage is done.

Many churches operate primarily on perception, tradition, or instinct, yet effective stewardship requires clarity as well as passion. Healthy Church provides a structured and honest way to assess what is really happening beneath the surface, helping leaders identify strengths to build on, risks to address early, and opportunities for healthier growth. The goal is to help churches remain spiritually healthy, missionally effective, and safe places where people can grow, flourish, and move toward their God-given purpose.

Examination as a biblical imperative

“Be sure you know the condition of your flocks…” (Proverbs 27:23-24)

Throughout Scripture, God's people are encouraged to examine, reflect, and evaluate. Healthy stewardship requires more than good intentions; it requires an honest understanding of current reality.

Church leaders are entrusted with the care of people, not simply programmes or organisations. As such, they have a responsibility to understand the spiritual health, culture, strengths, and challenges within the communities they lead. Without intentional examination, important issues can remain hidden until they begin to affect the life and effectiveness of the church.

The principle of examination is found throughout the Bible. Individuals are encouraged to examine their own lives and actions before God. Leaders are instructed to watch over themselves and the people entrusted to their care. Churches are repeatedly called to pursue maturity, faithfulness, and ongoing growth.

The Apostle Paul writes:

"Each one should test their own actions." (Galatians 6:4)

This principle applies not only to individuals but also to the ministries and churches they serve. Understanding where a church is today helps leaders prayerfully discern where God may be leading it tomorrow.

A helpful example is found in 1 Chronicles 12. Among the many warriors who joined David were the men of Issachar, described as those who "understood the times and knew what Israel should do." David recognised that wisdom requires both discernment and understanding. Effective leadership is strengthened when decisions are informed by a clear understanding of present realities.

Healthy churches do not fear examination. Rather, they embrace it as an act of stewardship, humility, and faithfulness. Honest reflection allows leaders to celebrate what God is doing well, identify areas that need attention, and make wise decisions for the future.

The Healthy Church Process.

The Healthy Church Program is designed to help church leaders gain a clear, evidence-based understanding of the health of their church and identify practical next steps for future development.

The process combines independent attendee feedback, leadership reflection, professional analysis, and strategic planning to create a balanced picture of church health.

Stage 1 – Pulse

The journey begins with Pulse, the foundational module of the Healthy Church Program. Pulse provides an independent assessment of church health through attendee feedback, helping leaders understand the current reality of church life and identify both strengths and opportunities for growth.

(See the Pulse section for further details.)

Stage 2 – Independent Data Analysis

Once the assessment period is complete, the responses are processed through specialist analytical software. This produces detailed data sets and initial reports that identify patterns, trends, strengths, risks, and areas requiring further attention.

The larger the number of respondents, the greater the confidence that leaders can have in the findings.

Stage 3 – Consultant Review

The data is then reviewed by an experienced Healthy Church Consultant who examines the results, interprets key themes, and identifies the most significant opportunities for development.

This stage ensures that the findings are considered within a wider ministry context rather than simply being viewed as statistics.

Stage 4 – Presentation and Discussion

The findings are presented to church leaders to help them understand the results, explore emerging themes, and discuss areas requiring attention.

The objective is not to criticise or compare churches, but to provide clarity, encourage healthy conversations, and support informed decision-making.

Stage 5 – Strategic Development Pathway

Following the review, the church receives practical recommendations and a development pathway designed to help leaders prioritise actions over the following months and years.

The focus is on creating realistic, achievable improvements that strengthen church health, leadership effectiveness, discipleship, and the overall experience of church life.

Stage 6 – 360 Matrix (Spring 2027)

The second module of the Healthy Church Program, 360 Matrix, is designed to complement Pulse by providing a leadership and organisational perspective.

While Pulse captures attendees' experiences, 360 Matrix examines leadership systems, organisational culture, strategic effectiveness, communication, governance, and key operational areas. Together, the two modules provide a comprehensive view of church health from both congregational and leadership perspectives.

(See the 360 Matrix section for further details.)

The Goal

The purpose of the Healthy Church Program is not simply to collect data. Its aim is to help churches become healthier, safer, and more effective places where people can encounter Jesus, grow in faith, discover their purpose, and flourish within the life of the local church.
